Week of April 29th-May 3rd Recap

Another week is in the books! Please enjoy some of the highlights below!

*As part of our Blue Zone efforts, we invited the Dairy Council of California to do a presentation on the importance of healthy eating. Grade level appropriate assemblies took place on Wednesday. Be sure to see photos below!

*Both advanced band and advanced orchestra earned a ranking of excellent at our festival in Vallejo! In the band category, our school got third place and in the orchestra category we got first place! Afterwards, we got to celebrate all our musicians' hard work by going to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom!

*Despite the rainy weather, we had several families show up to help beautify our school on Saturday. We collected 35 (or more) buckets of trash with the purpose of keeping that trash out of our ocean!

*Our 2nd and 3rd grade teachers administered Fountas & Pinnell running record assessments to determine students' independent and instructional reading levels. These assessments allow teachers to observe student reading behaviors one-on-one, engage in comprehension conversations that go beyond retelling, and make informed decisions that connect assessment to instruction.

*Grade K-6 teachers engaged in iReady math tailored support professional development sessions in which they continued planning for meaningful instruction to end the year strong.

*Grades 3-8 continued to persevere on the state assessment, SBAC. Most grade levels completed testing with only a few make-ups needing to happen. See testing schedule below for more information.

*Our grades 7-8 co-ed volleyball and flag football teams demonstrated determination and grit during their weekly competitive games this past week.

*Our Little Mermaid Jr. Musical cast continued to rehearse for their May 16-17 performances.

Looking forward to another great week ahead. Jay jay, chirp chirp!

With utmost gratitude,
