Intervention

At our school site, we provide Tier 2 (6 months to a year below grade level) and Tier 3 (1 1/2 years or more below grade level) intervention support for students in both Reading and Math. Such services and interventions are one of many pieces we use in our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). Classroom teachers provide these services in the classroom during guided instruction time, and on-site instructional aides and on-site teacher provide pull-out interventions as well.

Our Tier 2 ELA supports include Benchmark Advance Intervention resources and SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words). Our Tier 3 ELA support is Lindamood-Bell Instruction for Reading and Comprehension.

Our Tier 2 and 3 support for Mathematics is Do the Math Intervention Curriculum (Marilyn Burns).

Tier 2 and 3 intervention usually entails 20-25 minutes of small group instruction a day embedded in the regular classroom and an additional 30-45 minute pull-out small group instruction with an intervention paraprofessional or teacher staff member.

Students are referred to Tier 2 and Tier 3 ELA or Math intervention services usually as a result of a Student Success Team (SST) referral, and students are regularly progress monitored to determine whether they have grown to exit receiving these services, or they may require additional intervention services moving forward.
